I Don't Know What to Eat

Disclaimer: I'll proof read and edit this blog post at a later date. Remember Noni juice? What ever happened to that? I thought that that was it. If you bought Noni juice you had bought the ultimate health elixir. I worked at a health food store at the peak of the Noni craze (Blockbuster video still existed and Pier 1 Imports was the shit ). People were buying it by the cases. Pompous assholes mostly, as I recall.     Some people had even become vendors themselves and had a magnet on their car door that said something like “I sell Noni Juice.” But, then. Everyone forgot about that, and it became all about about Acai. The Acai berry it was. “This is like the stock market.” I thought. Someone says buy and everybody buys. I was like “Hey! What happened to the Noni Juice?” People were eating Acai berries by the handfuls, berry juice running down their arms and off their elbows. They were putting it in yogurt, they were drinking Acai juice. People we...

Slavery and Industrialization

W hat if we became a machine loving industrialized society because slavery ended? Slave masters got accustomed to doing no work and gaining massive returns due to slavery and exploitation. When it became illegal to have slaves, they looked to machines to output the same amounts of their product, and that's how we became the crazy production technology loving people we are today. They also turned to children to do the work…

What It's Like Not Owning A TV for Ten Years

I 'm so unaccustomed to watching TV. I went without owning a television for about 10 years and now when I see busy news and show promos, loud fast-paced commercials with shaky camera shots edited by an editor that apparently has Attention Deficit Disorder, I'm kind-of insulted. I'm insulted by this way, this attempt of selling me things, as-if the producers assume that I can't focus on anything unless I'm yelled at. And, these type of sights and sounds are somewhat shocking, since I've maintained the pace of books and live music practice over the past ten years.     Television is obviously being made for people who've been desensitized to the point where you need the sound of explosions going-off often, and swooshing sounds to go along with colorful menu animations, shot switches every few seconds, constant panning to go along with anticipatory adrenaline-pumping cliffhanger content.    It's kind of sad. But, at the same time it's kind of h...

Going to the Record Store

What it was like going to the record store? OK, imagine some guy or girl sitting at their computer wearing sweat-pants and a t-shirt and clicking-and-clicking on stuff to listen to in their living room. It wasn't like that.  Going to the record store was planning it the previous day, or even the previous week, or the week before that! "Man, let's go to the record store this week. What? You can't? OK, then let's go next week. I need to get that song I heard yesterday and explore some new music." So you would pick out something cool to wear (even if the look you were going for was the 'I don't care what I look like' look), comb your hair, and get excited about going to the place where all the bands hard labored crystallizations were collected for you to brows through. Sometimes, you would want to go solo if it was time for a deep and personal introspection into the music scene, which sometimes could be used as a delightful escape. Or...

Los Tigres Del Norte - At the Morocco Shrine Auditorium, Jacksonville, FL.

I went to Los Tigres del Norte show last night. They opened up their show by walking out one by one as they played La Banda Del Carro Rojo . They “rocked” the house like the superstars they are, and they were super classy. It was easy to notice the groups genuine love for their fans. They were generous with their time and audience interaction. Their show was lengthy, and they played all the songs the audience wanted to hear. 3/4ths of the way into the show they took requests from the audience on everything from napkins, cowboy hats, bandanas, and even on cellphones handed to them, and they’d hand them back.   It seemed Los Tigres Del Norte took note of who their audience was mostly comprised of, and their situations. I looked around and noticed all the indigenous facial structures, and how happy everyone was to be there. The band verbally never let the audience forget how they, and the audience are the “same” people, people of humble beginnings, and how honored th...

Banda Aid - Cause This Is A Boo Boo

Mexicans + Lounge Lizard Clothing + Polka Music + Cowboys + MTV = Banda Bands Not that you asked, but since you're here I'll tell you. In short "Banda Music" is a type of Polka music played by bands that are comprised of Mexican men who dress like lounge lizards and often wear cowboy hats. In the 1880's this type of Polka music was cast into the bowels of the earth by German occultists, and it clawed its way, through hell, only to unearth itself in the northwest state of Sinaloa, Mexico. It then proceeded to hypnotize the natives into thinking this dark carnival music was "Lo Maximo" i.e. "The Sh*t". This is what "Banda" music sounds like: Look... My mom is from Sinaloa Mexico, and that is where Mexican Banda Music originates. It's a good thing my mom doesn't use computers because she'd probably disown me for speaking less than spectacularly about Banda Music. But damn, I'm sorry mom! They dress like...

Facebooking 101

● www.GoliathFlores.com T his post will supply you with some guidelines for effectively showing the world who you are, what you do, where you've been, who you know, what you're listening to, and what you're eating. We are all unique individuals and facebook has given us a venue to publicly chronicle our lives. It has also helped people crystallize their digital personas . American society has been through many fads and changes throughout its history. Fads like "Break-Dancing, owning a "Pager/Beeper", and having a myspace have come and gone (Whats a 'myspace' you ask? Haha!) . But, today having a facebook account is increasingly popular. Facebooking is not only a modern fad, it's a "meta" fad riding on the advances of computer technology. Having an "on-line" presence has become an essential ingredient for a successful life in society. There are many things that can make people assume you've "gone off t...

Why I'm Proud of My Nationality

W hether your parents are from Argentina, Puerto Rico, U.S.A, or whichever country your parents could have conceived you in. It made you who you are today. It might make some uncomfortable to think about your parents doing it, but I'm happy to say that my parents only did it to make babies, since they where Catholic. And no other time did they have sex (That's what I tell myself anyway). I live in the United States of America, and by birth I am an American citizen. I'd like to shed some light on my humble accomplishments, as the journey was difficult and long. My father was born in the Guanajuato area of MX. And moved to Mexicali shortly after his father was designated land by the Mexican government. My mother was born in Mazatlan Mexico. Her mother was from the Veracruz area of MX, and her father a northern Italian man who stowed away in a ship during WWII only to  land in the gulf of MX. Though not from the same states of Mexico my parents both achieved to be born...

HOME - A Date With The Planet

"Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect." -Chief Seattle, 1854 After ALL this... The spirits of the innumerable deceased Native Americans must be thinking that the civilized settlers are finally understanding what they were talking about. The industrial revolution said "Let's dig a huge ditch and build a bridge over it, so we can finally walk across!" T he artist has always carried the responsibility, weather known or unknown to them, of externalizing the meeting place where the hard world of matter flirts with the soft world of the soul. Our understanding of the world, our pace of learning, and our pace of living move faster and faster, so fast that the speed of sound can be left behind with the singer. Our knowledge is deep enough to know that these words painted on your screen are simply dances of light. And the ...
