Creative Deconstruction

Things I don’t like about facebook.  Some months ago, I uninstalled the facebook application on my phone. At first I found myself going through a type of withdrawal, for I didn’t know what to do with myself while standing in line after having deleted the app. I haven’t been using facebook that long, so I found myself working on lyrics instead before too long, or just thinking or humming things to myself, and engaging in conversation. People try to claim that facebook is no big deal, but that sh*t is addictive yo! And it isn’t as innocuous as some people make it out to be. There are many things I don't understand about facebook. One being that it's against facebook TOS to friend people you don’t know (Strangers)? If everyone on there is supposed to be someone you know, why would you post your work history, where you currently work, your birthday, your schooling, your relationships, if people you know already know these things about you? Hmm? (Conspiracy theorists, go!)  ...

I recently discovered a Martial Arts dojo, which I joined and is in my neighborhood. Turns out the dojo has been here for a while. Pak's Karate in Springfield, FL.

  I t seems that singing is uncool, and   singers who know how to really  sing are often categorized as "Mainstream" at this point in music/industry. I'm talking about singers who can really belt out notes. It also seems what's regarded as more "real", soulful, "artistic" singing comes from singers who cant really sing, maybe even singers who seem to be merely whispering into the microphone while recording their Indie album. Or, even singers who sound decent in the studio, but horrible when performing for live audiences. Do I even know what I'm talking about? Yes. Yes I do. Check it... Take these guys for example. The guy in the first video is "Dan McCaffert" from the 70's Scottish rock band Nazareth. In this song "Love Hurts" he's really singing, belting it out. That muthaf**ker says LOVE HURTS! Me being a bicycling enthusiast and also a fan of science fiction, I decided to slap together images of cycling jerseys from fictional companies featured in movies. (Select images for larger view.) Stark Industries from the film Iron Man. The Umbrella Corporation from Resident Evil. Arepture Laboratories from Portal. And, this one I found. A TRON cycling outfit.

I went to Los Tigres del Norte show last night. They opened up their show by walking out one by one as they played La Banda Del Carro Rojo . They “rocked” the house like the superstars they are, and they were super classy. It was easy to notice the groups genuine love for their fans. They were generous with their time and audience interaction. Their show was lengthy, and they played all the songs the audience wanted to hear. 3/4ths of the way into the show they took requests from the audience on everything from napkins, cowboy hats, bandanas, and even on cellphones handed to them, and they’d hand them back.   It seemed Los Tigres Del Norte took note of who their audience was mostly comprised of, and their situations. I looked around and noticed all the indigenous facial structures, and how happy everyone was to be there. (At Cummer Museum of Art for the Miradas project.) So right towards the end of scoring California Winter , which was my first feature film score ever, and one of the most difficult tasks I've ever taken on, musically. I was asked to make the soundtrack for a short film, The Convert. The movie was filmed on location in Jacksonville, FL with the purpose of promoting "Bike (Bicycle) Month". Starting once again from a completely "blank canvas", sonically. It took me about eight hours to complete the soundtrack for The Convert. I did this over the course of two or three days.
